Resilience and Faith in Action at Fordham University

At Fordham University, the Jesuit values of faith, resilience, and service to others are more than guiding principles, they are lived out daily. For track and field athlete Constentino Proscia, those values became real during one of the most challenging seasons of his life. His battle was not only on the track, but in his personal life: grieving the loss of his father, spending eight months sidelined with a torn ligament, and later facing another setback with a groin injury. The weight of it all could have broken him.

Instead, Proscia turned to faith, growing closer to God and learning to trust in His plan even when the future felt uncertain. In true Jesuit spirit, he chose to see adversity as an opportunity for growth rather than defeat. He works relentlessly each day not only to compete, but for the people he loves, especially his sister, and to honor the memory of his father. He carries a promise to become successful enough to one day care for his sister and make his father proud.

Even in hardship, Proscia strives to maintain a positive mindset and help anyone he can, reflecting Fordham’s commitment to cura personalis — care for the whole person. For him, coming to Fordham was more than an athletic decision; it was a transformative step that strengthened his faith, sharpened his discipline, and deepened his sense of purpose. In his journey, Fordham’s Jesuit values are not just taught, they are lived.
