Did NYC College Students Really Live Inside Yankee Stadium?

In the early 1900s, students from Manhattan College lived inside parts of the original Yankee Stadium, home of the New York Yankees.

When Yankee Stadium opened in 1923, Manhattan College’s campus was located right across the street in the Bronx. At the time, student housing was limited. Instead of immediately building new dorms, the college arranged to use sections of the stadium as living space.

Students lived in converted areas within the stadium structure, creating one of the most unique college housing situations in New York City history.

It was far from the luxury dorms students expect today. There was no air conditioning, no modern amenities, and nothing close to high-end student housing.

But what they did have was something no NYC student today can match.

They could hear the roar of the crowd from their rooms, take a short walk, and be at a Yankees game, and they were living inside one of the most iconic stadiums in the world.
